According to the U.S. Fire Administration, a small flame can turn into a serious fire in just 30 seconds. Advice from Your Arborist: Raising Community Awareness About Fire Protection & Safety

As arborists, we have seen many homes and trees go up in flames, causing severe devastation to properties, landscaping, and livelihoods. One of our purposes as arborists, beyond providing excellent tree care services, is to raise awareness about fire protection and safety, and this starts with you and other members of your community.

Every community fire prevention strategy should include five key components:

1. Education and outreach to enhance awareness about the dangers of fires
2. The use of advanced fire protection and prevention technology
3. A strategy to create financial incentive to enhance fire safety in homes and businesses
4. Mandates for fire safety
5. An emergency response strategy that mitigates damage once a fire develops

As a community member, you can support your area’s fire preventions strategy by partnering with other organizations to host events that relay critical fire training, information, and safety. You should also look into fire safety initiatives and programs offered by your fire department for free. For example, many fire departments offer to install fire detection devices free of charge.

Most importantly, remember you are not on your own. Our arborists are committed to preventing fires in our local communities, preserving the beautiful trees in this area and the homes of the people who live here.
